364 days of the year, the Wakamiya Hachimangu shrine is a simple fertility shrine, for those couples wishing to have children. 1 day a year, it gets hijacked by Okama's (tranvestites) and thousands of Japanese and foreign visitors who want to see the spectacle. A giant pink phallus is paraded through the streets of Kawasaki, with the Okama's chanting "Big D__K" in Japanese for over an hour. Other popular activities include carving radishes in special shapes, taiko (Japanese drums), a fairly good band, and posing on one of the wooden phalluses.
