When reading about color photography one must not forget about Jan Szczepanik, one of the most briliant minds of his times. His first important invention was the method to use photographs to make paterns on material which reduced greatly the amount of work in textile factories. But he mostly dedicated his life to color fotography and movies. He invented for instance a paper for developing color pictures. His patent was later sold to Kodak, which basically gave birth to color photography as we know it. Later he introduced a way of creating color movies, but the costs were to frightening for cinema owners.
He was also one of the pioniers of television. In 1897 he patented in UK a machine, which could send and receive color movies. With sound!
Another important invention was the bulletproof material. His material glued to a thin sheet of metal could deflect a bullet from a Manlicher rifle, which normally penetrated 12 mm of steel from 100 meters. This invention became loud when it saved the king of Spain, Alphonso XII, from an assasination attempt.
He also experimented with wireless communication. He developed a wireless spark telegraph. It is probable that he even builded two stations of it, but unfortunately his archive was burned during WWII, so it's just an assumption. What we know for sure is that this invention greatly influenced Marconi, one of the fathers of radio communication.
