1-st rocket left the Earth's atmosphere

15 Failed Predictions about the Future)
1-st rocket capable to leave the Earth's atmosphere was not made in the US and flew much earlier than 1946. That was German V-2 (A-4) rocket and on April 22 1943 it reached 59 mi. Actually on photo is also V-2 assembled in White Sands from German spare parts with US VAK-Corporal rocket used as second stage.
So statement "in 1946, the first American-built rocket to leave the earth's atmosphere was launched from White Sands, attaining 50 miles of altitude." is totally incorrect -- it happaned in 1943 and even in 1946 it was not "American-built rocket".
